North Highlands is located in Northern Sacramento, where Interstate and Business
80 intersect. The community is defined primarily as the home of the McClellan Air
Force Base, which was at one time the largest employer in Sacramento. The base has
been transformed today into a unique corporate business park, complete with a
master planned community and Aerospace Museum.
There are a variety of neighborhoods and developments within North Highlands.
Many of the homes were initially built for military families and are now ideal for
first time buyers. Most neighborhoods have sidewalks and an abundance of trees.
There are numerous parks throughout the area, and an active parks and recreation
department produces several community and holiday events, as well as sports
programs for kids as well as adults.
North Highlands straddles Interstate 80, making it an easy location to commute
from. The area is home to American River College and is approximately 20 minutes
from Downtown Sacramento and less than two hours from San Francisco
